InstructUK Resources Ltd have developed a very detailed, unique online tool to help employers determine their First Aid needs. It is estimated that 79% of all UK businesses fail to meet their statutory obligations in respect of First Aid provision.
Employers are obligated to comply with a large number of Health & Safety regulations and conducting risk assessments can be daunting, time consuming and expensive in many cases.
The aim of this new online programme is to support employers by simplifying the process of assessing their First Aid needs, reducing their costs and making the workplace a much safer environment in which to work.
Employers have a legal duty to make arrangements in ensuring their employees receive immediate attention, if they are injured or taken ill at work. It doesn’t matter whether the injury or illness is caused by the work they do or not. What is important is that they receive immediate attention and that an ambulance is called in serious cases.
First Aid can save lives and prevent minor injuries becoming major ones.
We are hoping that this new tool will not only provide the employer with a better facilitated and resourced workplace in respect of First Aid, but we are confident that it will have a major impact on being able to deal with accidents far more efficiently which will ultimately reduce the ‘Injury and Ill-Health’ statistics as produced by the HSE in October 2014:
• 1.2 million working people suffering from a work-related illness
• 133 workers killed at work
• 78,000 other injuries to employees reported under RIDDOR
• 629,000 injuries at work from the Labour Force Survey
• 28.2 million working days lost due to work-related illness and workplace injury
• £14.2 billion estimated cost of injuries and ill health from current working conditions (2012/13)
Although there is guidance for employers as detailed in the HSE’s statutory L74 document, there is no detailed online system to support the systematic approach they need, in order to create a Risk Assessment of First Aid Needs, particularly the numerous factors that need to be taken into account.
Employers are guided through the whole process of assessing their First Aid needs with every factor taken into account with a very supportive online system. They also have the added bonus of recording information about their First Aiders, a reminder system for re-qualifying their First Aid trained personnel, an invitation to shop for kits and equipment, as well as a system for searching for training courses so that their shortfall can be managed.
As their business circumstances change, their assessment is always available for review so that it can be kept up to date. A ‘Certificate of Compliance’ is issued at the end for all eligible businesses, as well as a detailed report specific to their workplace. This is renewable every 12 months.
The Risk Assessment of First Aid Needs (RAOFAN) programme will be launched officially on September 9th 2015 to all UK businesses and supported by Phil Vickery MBE former England Rugby Union captain and British and Irish Lions representative.
