Read More]]> Following on from our recent distance learning newsletters, we are pleased to announce that the following qualification is also now available for registered Food Safety Trainers to deliver through distance learning:

FAA Award in Food Safety in Catering (Ofqual Level 2/SQA Accreditation Level 5)

This is an excellent introduction to Food Safety in Catering for people working in the catering industry. It can also be used as an introduction for a learner wishing to gain higher levels of training in this area. You will gain the knowledge and understanding of the key issues in food safety required to safeguard the health of consumers. The areas covered are considered vital by the Food Standards Agency to maintain food safety and hygiene. Successful candidates will be awarded a national Level 2/5 qualification which will provide an ideal platform to higher level training or career development.

You will need to be registered with Nuco Training to access the course paperwork and additional documents for this qualification which can be downloaded from your NucoPlus account (once registered) and include the following documents:

  • Distance learning Qualification Specification
  • Distance learning Learner Resource Sheet
  • Distance learning Assessment Guidance
  • Distance learning Assessment Record
  • Distance learning Evaluation Form
  • Zoom User Guide

Read More]]> New Allergen rules have come out this month regarding Food Allergen Labelling for the Food Industry which may be of interest to trainers delivering Food Safety and/or Good Nutrition.

In brief:

If you are a consumer

The new allergen information rules will mean that:

• You can now ask for information about 14 allergens, if used as an ingredient in the food you are buying, when you eat out.
• You will see allergenic ingredients emphasised (for example, using bold, italics or colours) on prepacked foods. This means all allergen information will be found on the ingredients list only.

If you are a food business selling loose food or in food service (for example school canteens, cafes, restaurants, takeaways, caterers)

The new allergen information rules will mean that:

• You must provide information about 14 allergens, if used as an ingredient in the food you are providing or selling. You can do this on a menu, chalkboard, website or orally, but must signpost your customers to this information.

If you are a food business manufacturing prepacked food

The new allergen information rules will mean that:

• You will have to emphasise allergenic ingredients (for example, by using bold, italics or colours) on the ingredients list. This means all allergen information will be provided on the ingredients list only.
